Codex Judas Congress
Who's sponsoring it? The realization of one of my dreams - the making of the Codex Judas Congress - is entirely dependent upon the generosity of the Rice Faculty Initiative Fellowship, Rice Department of Religious Studies, Boniuk Center for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance, and the Houston Archaeological Institute of America.
What is it? The Codex Judas Congress is an academic conference that will sponsor the research presentations of thirty world-reowned scholars in order to examine the newly found Tchacos Codex, a fourth-century Coptic book that contains the Gospel of Judas, the Apocalypse of James, the Letter of Peter to Philip, and a fragment of Allogenes and Satan. These presentations will occur over the course of four days.
When is it? The conference will run March 13-16, 2008.
Where is it? The Congress will convene at Rice University. The academic presentations will be delivered in Farnsworth Pavilion. The special public lectures in the evenings will be scheduled in various locations.
Who's coming? Thirty international scholars will be
participating in this conference. For a complete list with the titles
and abstracts of their talks, click HERE.
What is the schedule of events? Click HERE for a tentative schedule of events. Please note that it is due to change periodically, so check back for updates.

How Can Graduate Students be involved? We will be setting up a Graduate Student Poster Session to coincide with the Congress papers. Are you a graduate student
interested in making your own contribution? If so, send us your
proposal for a poster. The application is accessible here.
Is the public involved? The academic Congress sessions which will be held during the day, will be open to the public. Seating, however, is limited, and the presentations will be technical. But we are planning two special evening public
lectures on March 13 and 14 from 7-8 p.m. Both will be in Duncan Hall, 1055, the McMurtry Auditorum. Please be advised that although these lectures are free and open to the public, seating is limited and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis. Parking lots can be located on the Rice University interactive map.
